Allysha Joy Releases New Single “dropping keys”
|Allysha Joy, the deeply expressive singer, songwriter, producer, poet, and musician from Naarm (Melbourne), has released her new single “dropping keys.” This latest track offers a mesmerizing, soulful glimpse into her forthcoming album “The Making Of Silk,” set to release on September 13th via First Word.
“dropping keys” is a breathtaking display of raw intimacy. The song weaves together lush strings, layered Rhodes, and a powerful rhythm section of drums and bass, all enhanced by the delicate sound of her bell earrings swaying by her side.
Inspired by the Hafiz poem of the same name, “dropping keys” explores the idea that once we find the keys to unlock ourselves from the cages that society has placed us in (or sometimes even the cages we’ve created for ourselves), we then pass that key on to the next person. Allysha explains, “It’s about the inherent love and wisdom of sharing whatever tools or knowledge we have gained on our journey with others, so everyone can hold the key to access their own freedom.”
Known for both her critically acclaimed solo work and as the lead vocalist for the 30/70 Collective, this year marks a significant turning point in her stellar career. After years of collaborating with a range of artists from across the musical spectrum, her new LP “The Making Of Silk” stands as a major point of inner revelations and focus from one of the most vital artists to emerge in recent times. For this, her third album, she’s returning to the essence of raw soul music, bringing her husky vocals, formidable Fender Rhodes prowess, and raw poeticism to the forefront.
Allysha has performed at We Out Here Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, New York Winter Jazz Festival, The Jazz Cafe (London), Jasmine (Warsaw), and has supported Snarky Puppy, The Teskey Brothers, PJ Morton, Kokoroko, and Children of Zeus, to name a few.
Joy has previously released two full-length solo albums, “Acadie: Raw” in 2018 and “Torn: Tonic” in 2022, as well as an EP, “Light It Again” in 2020, along with numerous collaborations and features over the past few years.
