Calva Louise unveil official music video for explosive new track “Under The Skin”

Calva Louise has shared a new Sci-Fi music video for their song “Under The Skin”, along with signing with Mascot Records – home to P.O.D., VOLA, Defects, Conquer Divide, Dragged Under, and 10 Years.

The band storms into 2024 with performances at Download Festival, 2000Trees, and Primordial General Mayhem. In May, they will embark on a 10-day tour across the US with Vukovi, and will perform at the So What!? Festival, Welcome to Rockville, and Sonic Temple. They will also appear at Vainstream Rockfest (Germany) and Dynamo MetalFest (Netherlands).

The UK-based band is an international ensemble with members hailing from around the world. Calva Louise has conquered the British underground scene in recent years, driven by the creative vision of Venezuelan-born Jess Allanic (vocals/guitar/keyboard), alongside French-born Alizon Taho (bass/backing vocals) and New Zealander Ben Parker (drums/backing vocals).

“Under The Skin” was written by Allanic and Gareth McGrillen of Pendulum, and is an enchanting mix of raging metal riffs, swirling electronics, and Allanic’s extraordinary ability to flit between ethereal vocals and demonic screams.

“Under The Skin” follows a complex Sci-Fi storyline and introduces a conceptual narrative about the characters and their counterparts called the Doubles. Allanic says of the song, ‘The lyrics deal with the obstacles that arise between them as one is looking for freedom and the other is looking to perpetuate their consciousness, but the expectations are not the same for both sides.’

The video is a visual feast, directed and edited with VFX by Jess Allanic. This first single release is accompanied by Calva Louise’s most ambitious music video production yet, including a short Sci-Fi film telling a story of parallel dimensions where the characters seek to continue their consciousness outside the real world.

The mesmerizing album “Over The Threshold” from 2023 was a breakthrough moment. They had built a strong reputation on the live circuit, with sold-out shows across the UK. This followed a headline performance at the Reading and Leeds festival, along with tours with acts such as Cassyette, Highly Suspect, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Death Valley Girls, and appearances at Riot Fest (US) and SXSW (US).

The music videos are part of a larger science fiction project that tells the story behind the songs. The concept of “Doubles” signifies the existence of two sides within the human experience: the avatars, or “Travellers”, who fight as Third Class Citizen to reach the source of their willpower: the “Doubles”.
