Al Jarreau 75 years today

al jarreauMarch 12 2015 marks the 75th birthday of singer Al Jarreau. Jarreau is one of the most celebrated jazz-singers. He was the only singer to win 7 Grammy’s (in three different categories), and is know for his exceptional voice. Jarreau is a master in improvisation and scatting, and the ability to imitate instruments.

His breaktrough was in 1977, with his live-album ‘Look to the rainbow’, and his first Grammy Award. This succes was exeeded four years later by his masterpiece ‘Breaking Away’. Al Jarreau has been working with big names, such as Herbie Hancock, Jill Scott, Shakatak, George Benson, Marcus Miller, Paul McCartney and The Metropole Orkest. His most famous songs are ‘Rondo a la Turk’, ‘Boogie Down’, ‘Monin’ ‘, his vocal version of Dave Brubeck’s ‘Take Five’ and of course ‘Roof Garden’.
