John Mellencamp to Release New Lyric Book and Launch Summer Tour

John Mellencamp is set to release a new lyric book via Rizzoli New York. The publication brings together his work as a songwriter and poet, offering a wide overview of his creative evolution across multiple decades. It explores his long career through lyrics, reflections, and visual material drawn from his personal archives.

Career Overview

John Mellencamp is widely regarded as one of the most influential singer-songwriters of his generation. Over a career spanning five decades, he has become a key figure in American rock music and is recognised as a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His work has also been honoured with several major awards, including distinctions tied to songwriting, cultural impact, and lifetime achievement. Beyond music, he has played a central role in social activism through Farm Aid, an initiative he co-founded with Willie Nelson and Neil Young to support American family farmers.

Book Content and Collaborations

The upcoming volume, titled “John Mellencamp: The Songbook: 50 Years of Song and Poetry”, includes lyrics from some of his most well-known songs alongside previously unpublished photographs, handwritten drafts, and personal notes. The book also features a foreword by Stephen King, adding a literary perspective to Mellencamp’s artistic legacy. It is designed as a comprehensive archive for fans, musicians, and collectors interested in his work.

Farm Aid Support Initiative

To mark the release of the book, Mellencamp and Rizzoli are collaborating with Farm Aid. A portion of the pre-sales will be donated to the organisation, supporting its ongoing mission to assist family farmers. In addition, those who participate in the pre-sale period are entered into a raffle for a signed copy of the book, linking the publication directly to his long-standing commitment to agricultural advocacy.

Summer Tour Plans

Mellencamp is also preparing for a major summer tour that will highlight his most recognised songs in a single performance format. The tour is designed as a retrospective live experience, bringing together material from across his career, including songs that have not been performed on stage for many years. It represents a new approach to presenting his catalogue in a live setting, emphasising the breadth of his songwriting legacy.

Recognition and Recent Honours

Recently, Mellencamp was honoured with the 2026 iHeartRadio Icon Award. He also performed during the ceremony, underscoring his continued presence as a live performer and his ongoing influence in contemporary music culture.

John Mellencamp: The Songbook: 50 Years of Song and Poetry is scheduled for release on September 29. The Farm Aid pre-sale support initiative takes place during the month of April, and the summer tour begins on July 10 across 19 cities in the United States.
