Simple Minds Announces Landmark North American Tour
|
Simple Minds has announced their most extensive North American headline tour in four decades, marking a pivotal moment in their illustrious career. The ‘Alive & Kicking Tour 2025’ will feature support from iconic new wave acts Soft Cell and Modern English throughout the run.
The tour announcement coincides with several momentous celebrations for the legendary UK band. 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of their extraordinary breakthrough period, which saw “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” top charts worldwide and the release of their RIAA Gold-certified seventh studio album “Once Upon A Time.” This era also included their unforgettable Live Aid performance in 1985, where they played to 135,000 fans and a television audience of millions.
To commemorate this special year, Simple Minds is releasing “Live in the City of Diamonds,” a new double live album recorded at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome during their 2024 Global Tour. The album, arriving April 25 via BMG, will be available as a double CD featuring 24 tracks and a 24-page Media Book, as well as vinyl editions in both clear/glitter and standard black variants.
‘All we wanted was to be in a great live band and to spend our lives taking our music with us around the world,’ reflects Simple Minds co-founder and frontman Jim Kerr. ‘Decades later we still relish that challenge every night on tour.’
Over their career, Simple Minds has achieved remarkable success with over 1 billion global streams and worldwide sales exceeding 60 million. The band has garnered six UK number-one albums and topped charts across Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand. Their recent releases include “Walk Between Worlds” (2018) and “Direction of the Heart” (2022), both achieving top 5 debuts in the UK.
