Washington’s brand new tour and album are called ‘Fearless Movement’, his first endeavour since 2018. The influential Pitchfork has already stated that the initial tracks are extremely promising. With heavyweights like André 3000 – with whom he recently released ‘Dream State’ – Thundercat, and George Clinton on the guest list, this should come as no surprise. ‘Fearless Movement’, inspired by dance and the birth of his first daughter, is set to be released on May 3rd.

Since his debut in 2015, Kamasi Washington has enjoyed an excellent reputation among connoisseurs and far beyond, with an impressive track record to boot. His first studio album, ‘The Epic’ (2015), was embraced as one of the best of the year and awarded the American Music Prize. The records ‘Harmony Of Difference’ (2017) – an EP commissioned by ‘The Whitney Biennial’ – and ‘Heaven and Earth’ (2018) were also greeted with praise. In 2020, Kamasi composed and produced the original score for “Becoming”, the four-time Emmy-nominated film that offers an intimate look into the life of Michelle Obama. This production earned him his first of two Grammy nominations. And he clinched the second nomination for ‘Dinner Party: Dessert’ (2020). An EP for which he collaborated with Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and 9th Wonder. Kamasi’s list of collaborations is nothing short of impressive and cannot be pigeonholed into one category. British quality newspaper The Guardian even dared to compare him to John Coltrane. He has worked with Kendrick Lamar, Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Florence & The Machine, and Herbie Hancock, among others. With the latter, he is organizing the ‘Hollywood Bowl Jazz Fest’ for the second year in a row.

For fusion jazz firmly rooted in the 21st century yet eagerly nodding to the masters of old, look no further than Kamasi Washington. Kamasi Washington announces his European tour today in support of his latest album ‘Fearless Movement’. After six years, the legendary saxophonist is finally returning to Europe.
