Epic Night of Music: 311, AWOLNATION & Neon Trees Ignite Merriweather Post Pavilion

On August 4, 2024, the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, came alive with an exhilarating night of music as the Unity Tour rolled into town. The concert brought together an impressive lineup of 311, AWOLNATION, and Neon Trees, each delivering their own unique sound and unforgettable performance. From the opening set by Neon Trees to the explosive finale with 311, the evening was a vibrant celebration of diverse musical styles and high-energy performances that kept the audience captivated throughout.

Neon Trees

The show kicked off with Neon Trees, who immediately drew the crowd in with their energetic stage presence. They opened with “Losing My Head,” setting a lively tone with its powerful rhythms and catchy melodies. Tyler Glenn, known for his intense and authentic style, demonstrated his unwavering passion for music.

The band continued with “El Diablo,” creating a darker, rhythmically engaging atmosphere, and followed up with the hit “Animal,” which had the crowd moving and singing along. “Sleeping With a Friend” brought a moment of unity among fans, while a standout cover of The Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me” added a modern twist to the set. Neon Trees wrapped up their performance with the popular hit “Everybody Talks,” leaving the audience buzzing with excitement.

AWOLNATION

Next up was AWOLNATION, who delivered a set rich in musical variety. They kicked things off with “Soul Wars,” captivating the audience with its blend of indie rock and electronic elements. The band’s performance of “Kill Your Heroes” and “Run” showcased their signature sound, combining powerful vocals with electronic beats.

A highlight of their set was “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf),” which elevated the crowd with its immersive sound. The band surprised everyone with a cover of Blur’s “Song 2,” adding an energetic twist to their performance. The night reached a thrilling climax as they closed with their massive hit “Sail,” leaving the crowd singing along and fully engaged.

The evening was capped by a powerful set from the headliners, 311. They opened with “Beautiful Disaster,” setting the stage for a night of musical diversity. The band followed with “Freeze Time” and “Plain,” showcasing their ability to blend different genres seamlessly.

Other highlights included “Come Original” and “Sunset in July,” which energized the audience. The dynamic “Transistor” and intense “Bass Solo” highlighted the band’s technical skill and musical depth. After an emotional performance of “Amber,” the regular set concluded with “Creatures (for a While).”

The night ended on a high with a powerful encore featuring “Do You Right” and the iconic hit “Down,” bringing the evening to an explosive finish. 311 reaffirmed their status as a major force in the rock world, celebrating more than three decades of influential music.

The Unity Tour at Merriweather Post Pavilion showcased an incredible mix of musical talent and energy. Neon Trees kicked things off with their distinctive rock sound, AWOLNATION added their eclectic blend of electronic and rock influences, and 311 delivered a powerful and dynamic performance. The concert highlighted the enduring impact and appeal of these iconic bands, leaving fans with a memorable night of music.
