Video premiere: Wave a Way – WEIGHTless

Sometimes the most beautiful stories don’t emerge from grand plans, but from unexpected encounters. When Jorik Van den Bosch (The 925, ex-Mooneye) and Muriel Boulanger (MURI) decided to walk their musical paths together, they perhaps didn’t yet know they were creating something special. Wave a Way isn’t a traditional love story – it’s the birth of a sonic universe that is as enchanting as it is disarming.

Their debut single “WEIGHTless” lands like a soft touchdown in a world that too often shouts. Here, the music whispers, and therein lies its power. The band has found a sound that floats somewhere between the sultry intimacy of Cigarettes After Sex, the summery warmth of Khruangbin, and the experimental distortion of Yo La Tengo – a combination that might seem strange on paper, but feels wonderfully natural in practice.

Muriel’s voice carries the song like a warm breeze through a summer day, whilst Jorik’s velvet-soft guitar lines envelop the melody like evening mists. Jonathan Callens on drums (known for his work with Sarah Ferri and Kiss The Anus of A Black Cat) effortlessly weaves simplicity and groove together, whilst Matthias Dewilde (Nagloed) lays a warm blanket over everything with his synth work.

The lyrics of “WEIGHTless” feel like fragments from a dreambook – fragmentary, poetic, full of those moments you try to hold onto whilst they slip through your fingers. “We’re going on to the next escape, into the minutes of a song” – this line returns like a mantra, like a promise that music can lift us to places where weight disappears and time seems to stand still.

There’s something magical about how Wave a Way manages to create a “weightless dance” without ever sounding forced. The song feels like a night-time drive where the destination matters less than the journey itself. It’s dream pop that doesn’t drift away from reality, but rather adds another layer to it – softer, lighter, but no less true.

Their EP, recorded with Frederik Segers (Black Flower, Stadt, Sioen) and announced for late 2025, promises further exploration of this dreamy universe. If “WEIGHTless” is a taste of what’s to come, then a remarkable musical journey awaits us.

Wave a Way doesn’t invite you to dance or sing along – they invite you to pause for a moment, to listen, and to let yourself drift along. And that’s precisely what we sometimes need most. Video premiere, exclusive at Maxazine:
