Cage the Elephant Delivers Electrifying Performance at PNC Bank Arts Center

An August night, and the PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey was transformed into a rock and roll haven as fans eagerly awaited the electrifying performance of Cage the Elephant. The anticipation was palpable as the crowd buzzed with excitement, eager to witness the band’s high-energy show. But before the main act took the stage, the audience was treated to a dynamic and captivating set by some supports, amongst others the rising star Willow Avalon.

Willow Avalon

Avalon, with her powerful vocals and magnetic stage presence, immediately captured the audience’s attention. She kicked off her set with the energetic “Stranger,” a song that showcased her raw talent and infectious energy. Following that, she delved into her repertoire, treating the crowd to hits like “Honey Ain’t No Sweeter” and “Gettin’ Rich, Goin’ Broke.”

One of the highlights of her performance was the debut of a new song, “Raise Some Hell,” which left the crowd wanting more. Avalon’s unique blend of rock, country, and pop elements resonated with the audience, creating a lively and unforgettable atmosphere. Throughout her set, Avalon engaged with the crowd, sharing stories and expressing her gratitude for their support. Her genuine connection with the audience made her performance even more special.

Bakar

The crowd was immediately captivated by Bakar’s infectious stage presence and soulful vocals. He kicked off the show with the high-energy “All In,” setting the tone for the rest of the night. The audience was singing along to every word as he performed hits like “1st Time” and “Right Here, for Now.”

Bakar’s ability to blend genres seamlessly was on full display. He seamlessly transitioned from his signature R&B-infused sound to a more rock-oriented style, keeping the crowd engaged throughout the set. The surprise inclusion of a snippet of Dominic Fike’s “3 Nights” during “Right Here, for Now” was a delightful treat for fans of both artists. Towards the end of the set, Bakar delivered a powerful rendition of his great song “Stop Selling Her Drugs.” The energetic “NW3” and “Alive!” kept the momentum going, and the show concluded with the heartfelt ballad “Small Town Girl.”

Young the Giant

Young the Giant, the California-based indie rock band, delivered a captivating performance as the last opening act for Cage the Elephant’s tour. Their energetic setlist, filled with fan favourites and newer tracks, showcased their undeniable talent and stage presence. The band kicked off their set with the infectious “Jungle Youth,” immediately drawing the crowd in with its catchy melody and driving rhythm. Following with “The Walk Home” and “Cough Syrup,” they continued to build momentum and create a vibrant atmosphere.

A highlight of the show was their performance of “Waves,” a beloved track from their sophomore album, “Mind Over Matter.” The crowd erupted in cheers as they sang along to the anthemic chorus. Other notable performances included “God As Witness,” “Dollar $tore,” and “It’s About Time,” which showcased the band’s versatility and ability to connect with their audience.

Young the Giant’s stage presence was equally impressive. The band members enjoyed themselves, interacting with the crowd and feeding off their energy. Their tight harmonies and energetic guitar riffs created a powerful and immersive sound. Their energetic setlist, captivating stage presence, and undeniable talent made them a worthy opening act for Cage the Elephant.

From the opening song, “Broken Boy,” the crowd was immediately captivated by Matt Shultz’s charismatic stage presence and the band’s tight musicianship. The energy remained high throughout the set, with hits like “Cry Baby,” “Spiderhead,” and “Too Late to Say Goodbye” sending the audience into a frenzy.

The band’s latest album, “Social Cues,” was well-represented in the setlist, with tracks like “Ready to Let Go,” “Neon Pill,” and “Social Cues” receiving enthusiastic sing-alongs. The band also performed older favourites like “Cold Cold Cold,” “Halo,” and “Mess Around,” demonstrating their enduring popularity.

One of the show’s highlights was the performance of “In One Ear,” a song that the band hadn’t played live since 2018. The surprise inclusion of this track was a treat for longtime fans, and it further showcased the band’s versatility.

During the encore, Cage the Elephant treated the crowd to a medley of their biggest hits, including “Shake Me Down,” “Cigarette Daydreams,” and “Come a Little Closer.” The band’s encore performance was a fitting end to an unforgettable night of music.
