|On June 25th, the first edition of METRONOME festival kicks off, promising a musical joyride. A unique city festival with a line-up that stands any international test will offer together with the United Islands of Prague the biggest music weekend ever in the history of Prague festivals. On the last weekend of June, the Vystaviste Holesovice exhibition grounds will transform into one big music stage that will host the legendary Iggy Pop; one of today´s hottest music bands Foals and the popular indie rockers The Kooks. The roster of domestic bands includes the unique performance of J.A.R.; the Slovak singer Richard Müller; the world famous musician of Czech origin Ivan Kral, in addition to the well-established electro-swing quartet Mydy Rabycad. METRONOME is organised in cooperation with the United Islands of Prague international music festival and both festivals take place during the same weekend.
During the last weekend in June, this new two-day festival METRONOME will bring big world music stars to Prague and will show its visitors unique performances of international and domestic performers. The festival will take place within the broader center of the Czech capital on the premises of the Vystaviste Prague. Alongside well worked-out music programming, the METRONOME will offer its visitors great traffic accessibility, comfortable accommodation or camping right in the municipal park of Stromovka. Apart from the top headliners, METRONOME festival promises comfort, quality and service. The combination of city and music makes METRONOME a truly unique festival. Visitors will have the chance to explore the city center and experience some great music acts on the last weekend before summer holidays start.
The festival headliner is the legendary Iggy Pop who will introduce not only songs from his new album Post Pop Depression but also the cross-section of his solo production, especially from his famous Berlin period. The second headliner is one of the most desired bands of this age – the British Foals. Last autumn, they produced their fourth studio album What Went Down and during their tour this year, they played a sell-out gig at the famous Wembley stadium. The visitors can also look forward to one of the most distinct representatives of the British indie rock scene – The Kooks, as well as to the special “Best of Show” of the Slovak singer Richard Müller or the exceptional performance of J.A.R. with their brand new arrangements and gospel choirs. The festival will also include performance of the electro swing quartet Mydy Radycad, which achieved its fame partly thanks to the United Islands of Prague festival. They will perform at the Glastonbury music festival this year. The performance of Ivan Kral, the bass guitarist and composer of film music who collaborated with musical legends such as Patti Smith, Iggy Pop and Blondie , will bring unique inter-connection of music legends. He will perform on one stage with Jiri Suchy. The festival´s line-up will also include the UK-Spanish electrofolk band Crystal Fighters, the Brno´s Ghost of You, the German singer and multi-instrumentalist L’Aupaire, the dark and melancholic Scandinavian trio Get Your Gun and the solo project of the former saxophonist of Parov Stelar – the Austrian Max The Sax.
The METRONOME festival is organized by the METRONOME productions s. r. o., headed by David Gaydecka and Martin Vonka. The organizers have many years of experience with hosting various concerts and organizing the United Islands of Prague music festival, which will celebrate its 13th edition this year. They have decided to move their flagship forward and during one weekend, they want to give all music lovers the chance not only to discover new up-and-coming interprets at the United Islands of Prague for free, but also to experience magnificent performances of both foreign and domestic stars at the METRONOME festival. “Prague deserves to host a big music festival that connects urban atmosphere with a quality and exclusive music programming. We have a stable background, many years of experience and a long-term plan until 2023. We want to keep moving the festival forward every year, focus on the comfort of all festival visitors and offer them a perfect festival experience – already this year,” says David Gaydecka.
“I like the idea of people coming to the Czech capital for a long weekend, doing some sightseeing and spending their afternoon walking Prague islands and parks and listening to young and talented musicians at the United Islands of Prague. In the evening, they take a tram to the Vystaviste and get to enjoy world-class music stars,” adds Martin Vonka.
