Lollapalooza Berlin 2024 Day 1 celebrates music and magic
Lollapalooza Berlin 2024 has once again proven why it’s one of Europe’s most beloved music festivals. The ninth edition, held on September 7 and 8 at the iconic Olympiastadion and Olympiapark, offered an impressive mix of international stars and emerging talent.
This year, the organizers put together another excellent lineup, which was certainly on par with the American edition’s. With two main stages, North and South, and smaller stages, there was something for everyone. Additionally, DJs took over Perry’s Stage in the Olympiastadion. From alternative rock to EDM, from pop to hip hop: it was all represented.
Saturday kicked off with performances by names like Tom Grennan and Henry Moodie. This year’s notable trend was the presence of various artists who had built large fan bases through social media. Natalie Jane, known for her viral TikTok covers, created a lively atmosphere. Songs like “AVA,” “Mentally Cheating,” and “Kind Of Love” have garnered tens of millions of streams, and the crowd enthusiastically sang along to all her hits.
The Saturday night headliners delivered an unforgettable closing to the day. Louis Tomlinson entertained tens of thousands of fans with his hits. It was clear early on that the One Direction star would perform, as dozens of girls sat in front of the main stage, waiting for their idol to take the stage at 6:00 PM. OneRepublic also received a lot of excitement from the audience. Lead singer Ryan Tedder announced through the microphone that they would play all their biggest hits, and they did just that. From “Counting Stars” to “Apologize,” the crowd thoroughly enjoyed every song.
Finally, Martin Garrix delivered a spectacular close in the massive stadium with a mix of his biggest hits and new music, accompanied by impressive visuals and fireworks. The Dutch DJ knows how to throw a party anywhere in the world, and Berlin was no exception, with the festivities lasting late into the night.
Lollapalooza Berlin isn’t just a festival for music lovers, but also for families. There was a special program for kids, allowing parents and children to enjoy the festival together. In addition, there was an alternative stage where up-and-coming punk/rock bands showcased their talents. Sam Tompkins performed there, though the singer is now so popular that he could have easily performed on one of the main stages.
The first day of Lollapalooza Berlin was an undeniable success: the lineup and atmosphere were spot-on. With a diverse range of artists and three stages where the biggest names of the moment rotated, there was more than enough to enjoy. The second day promises to be just as exciting.
