The Tragically Hip Announces Deluxe “Up To Here” Boxset in Celebration of 40th Anniversary

This week, The Tragically Hip announced a commemorative boxset of their Diamond-certified debut album, “Up To Here,” set for release on November 8. Originally released on September 5, 1989, “Up To Here” was The Tragically Hip’s first full-length studio album, marking their breakthrough with two Canadian rock radio #1 singles, “Blow at High Dough” and “New Orleans is Sinking,” and earning the band a JUNO Award for Most Promising Artist in 1990.

This expanded reissue of “Up To Here” is essential for collectors, featuring a four-LP set on 180g vinyl and a book documenting the history of the debut album era. It includes a 2024 remaster of the original album and four previously unreleased tracks—“She’s Got What It Takes,” “Get Back Again,” “Rain, Hearts And Fire,” and “Wait So Long”—all remastered and mixed in Atmos. Additionally, a recording of “Live at Misty Moon,” a special filmed for MuchMusic in 1990 at the Misty Moon Cabaret in Halifax, is included on Blu-ray, along with demos from 1988 recorded before the “Up To Here” sessions. The boxset will also be available in a three-disc CD format.

As a preview, The Tragically Hip releases “Get Back Again” today, a track fans consider the holy grail of the band’s unreleased material. This song was recorded in November 1988, produced by Chris Wardman before the band signed their first major record deal with MCA (now Universal Music Canada). The only known recording was from their “Live At Misty Moon” set, making this release significant for both the band and their fans.

Established in 1984, The Tragically Hip celebrates their 40th anniversary this year. In 2024, the band will reminisce with fans through a yearlong celebration, starting with their designation as Record Store Day Canada Ambassadors, the launch of a four-part Amazon Prime documentary titled “No Dress Rehearsal,” and the release of a deluxe, handcrafted book titled “This Is Our Life,” featuring over 300 pages of unseen rarities from the band’s personal collections. The “Up To Here” boxset is the latest in a series of reissues honoring the band’s extensive catalog, following the “Road Apples 30th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset” (2021), “Fully Completely Vinyl Release” (2022), and “Phantom Power 25th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset” (2023).
