The Cribs Announce North American Tour Dates

Fresh from a fierce battle for the UK number 1 spot, The Cribs have officially announced their long-awaited return to North America. This marks the Jarman brothers’ first headline tour on the continent in nearly a decade, bringing their raw energy and signature pop-infused punk to major cities including Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Chicago, Seattle, and Toronto. The tour comes in support of their critically acclaimed new album, “Selling A Vibe”, which is out now via Play It Again Sam.

For the three Jarman brothers, The Cribs has always been a heart-on-sleeve endeavour, documenting a realness and honesty imbued with a raw spirit and a love for pop melodies. With “Selling A Vibe”, that honesty is increasingly turned in the direction of each other, marking the first time they have so openly done so on one of their records.

After twenty years of the release-tour-release-tour treadmill, the brothers, who live across three different time zones, realised they needed to revive their essence as a family and get away from solely feeling like band members. A summer spent together with no music and no writing proved the perfect place to start that process of reconnection, something they say they are grateful for the opportunity to do after two decades together.

If behind the scenes, “Selling A Vibe” became about a return to truer relationships, the goal with producer Patrick Wimberly was very much about not reverting to type. Having worked with legendary rock producers on previous albums, the appointment of former Chairlift man Patrick Wimberly came from a place of continued curiosity and adventure. They wanted to work with someone who operated in a more contemporary way, and Wimberly’s list of production credits, including Solange, MGMT, and Lil Yachty, caught the eye. The band decided to specifically focus on enhancing the pop element of their sound, leading to a slower and more considered recording process that allowed them to indulge their love of melody.

Bassist and vocalist Gary Jarman says that as time has gone by, their albums have become more and more open. He notes that the songs on “Selling A Vibe” feel very personal, and the band’s only hope is that people enjoy and connect with the lyrics for what they are. They do not want this to be seen as just an indie rock or punk record, but rather as an ambitious album that is for everyone.

Key to the creative output of The Cribs is that they now only release music when it feels like they have something new to contribute. In this case, the renewal of treasured relationships provided the perfect reason for their return after a five-year absence.
