Connie Francis has passed away

American singer Connie Francis has passed away. The news was announced today by her close friend Ron Roberts in a post on Facebook. She died last night after having been hospitalized earlier.

Connie Francis began her career at a young age. In 1955, she signed her first record deal with MGM Records. Around that time, she also had a relationship with singer Bobby Darin. However, her breakthrough came three years later with the hit “Who’s Sorry Now”, a 1923 song that she transformed into a rock ‘n roll version.

In the United States, she became the first female solo artist to score a number one hit with “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool”. She would go on to have three number-one hits in her home country. But she also gained popularity in Europe during the 1950s and 1960s with hits like “My Happiness”, “Stupid Cupid”, “Where the Boys Are”, “Mama”, “Lipstick on Your Collar”, “Paradiso”, and “Blue Winter”. In Germany, she had a successful career singing in German, with hits such as “Die Liebe ist ein seltsames Spiel”, “Schöner fremder Mann”, “Tu’ mir nicht weh, my Darling”, “Wenn du gehst”, “Lili Marleen”, “Barcarole in der Nacht”, and “Meine Reise ist zu Ende”.

Her success began to wane in the late 1960s. But to everyone’s surprise, her old hit “Pretty Little Baby” recently found new popularity when a younger generation discovered it on the social media platform TikTok. She lived just long enough to witness this renewed interest. Connie Francis was 87 years old.
