Catch The Young Teases Comeback with “The Young Wave”
|
South Korean alternative pop-rock band Catch The Young has unveiled their first instrumental single, “The Young Wave,” a pre-release track from their upcoming album. This marks the group’s second release in 2025, following their January remake of Mono’s 90s hit “You, Always.”
“The Young Wave” represents a significant milestone as the band’s first fully instrumental composition, created and arranged entirely by the members themselves. The track narrates the emotional journey of a young man rushing to meet someone special, capturing the magical moment of their first encounter and the accompanying rush of feelings.
“The reason why we came up with the title ‘The Young Wave’ is that the song itself gives the impression of sailing the sea. We avoided the main theme’s repetition in the song’s finale because we wanted to imply that we’ll continue sailing further and taking on challenges eagerly.” – Sani, Bassist and Leader of Catch The Young
Before the release, the band shared a music video teaser across social media platforms. The teaser follows vocalist Namhyun walking thoughtfully through a forest of empty buildings. The initially monochrome scene transforms into vibrant colours as band members perform, enhanced by dynamic camera work and a mysterious rock soundscape.
While featuring symphony-like composition elements, “The Young Wave” distinctly showcases each instrument’s unique sound, demonstrating the band’s expanding sonic palette and experimental approach. By choosing an instrumental track as a pre-release single, Catch The Young signals new directions not only for their upcoming album but potentially for the Korean rock genre both domestically and internationally.
“The track begins boldly and proactively. A clear arpeggio on the piano sets the stage, soon joined by a marching-style drum roll, while the bass guitar gradually closes in harmony with the guitar riff. Before long, an impressive main theme, destined to weave through the unfolding epic, is played on the guitar. […] At this point, my curiosity for the live performance of ‘The Young Wave’ only grows stronger. Hopefully, this instrumental journey by Catch The Young will continue with a ‘Part 2’ and ‘Part 3’ in the future.” – Lim Heeyun, Music Critic and Author
