Joe Bonamassa Announces New Studio Album
|Blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa has announced his new studio album ‘Breakthrough,’ set for release on July 18th via his J&R Adventures label. The title track has been released as the first single, offering fans a preview of what’s described as Bonamassa’s most adventurous and genre-blending album to date.
Produced by Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, The Black Crowes, Journey), the album was recorded across multiple locations, including Greece, Egypt, Nashville, and Los Angeles. According to Shirley, while the album features plenty of guitar solos, there’s a stronger emphasis on songs, with influences ranging from “Little Feat funkiness to Texas swing, from hard rock power to acoustic singer/songwriter-style songs.”
The title track “Breakthrough,” co-written with Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd), is described as an uplifting anthem about transformation and persistence. This follows Bonamassa’s recent singles “Still Walking With Me” and “Shake This Ground,” which also appear on the upcoming album.
Bonamassa is currently on his European Spring Tour and will play summer dates with supergroup Black Country Communion, featuring Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian. He’ll return to the U.S. in 2025 for a summer tour that includes performances at The Greek Theatre and Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
