Opeth Announces European Headline Tour for 2025

Revered Swedish rock band Opeth has announced an extensive headline tour across Europe, set to take place in February and March 2025. This tour coincides with the release of their highly anticipated concept album, “The Last Will & Testament.”

The Last Will & Testament

“The Last Will & Testament” is a concept album that transports listeners to the aftermath of World War I, weaving a tale of a wealthy, conservative patriarch whose testament reveals shocking family secrets. The story unfolds through the patriarch’s confessions, the reactions of his twin children, and the enigmatic presence of a young, polio-stricken girl raised by the family. The album begins with the reading of the will in the patriarch’s mansion, where the girl’s presence raises suspicions among the family members.

Frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt provided insights into the album’s creation, highlighting the remarkable contributions of new drummer Walt and the unique recording experience at Rockfield Studios. Åkerfeldt praised the band’s efforts and professionalism, noting the low alcohol consumption during the recording sessions. The album was co-produced by Åkerfeldt and Stefan Boman, with mastering handled by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.

The album features collaborations with legendary flautist Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, who plays on multiple tracks, and Europe’s Joey Tempest, who provides backing vocals. Åkerfeldt’s daughter, Mirjam, also makes a vocal appearance, adding a personal touch to the project.
