LYRICS BORN Unplugged: Reimagining Hip-Hop Classics in Acoustic Album Release

Renowned rapper LYRICS BORN is set to release an acoustic album, “That 1 Tyme In The Studio: Acoustic Selections,” on May 10, 2024, through Mobile Home Recordings. Exploring his acclaimed musical catalog, the Berkeley-based artist has revisited some of his biggest hits, transforming them into stripped-down, refreshed versions.

Drawing from his studio recordings, LYRICS BORN brings new life to his songs while staying true to their essence. Tracks like his jazzy rendition of “Chest Wide Open” and the reggae-infused “Callin’ Out” unveil a more organic side of the rapper. Reflecting on the transformation process, he shares, “It was a lot of fun. It was a lot like the live experience, where you know the song, you just get in and knock it out, and the energy that’s captured with no editing or revisions.”

Injecting drama into classics like James Brown’s “This Is a Man’s World,” LYRICS BORN showcases his vocal prowess against a sultry musical backdrop. His interpretations of “I Like It, I Love It” and “Do That There” resonate with excitement and joy.

As LYRICS BORN expands into the entertainment world with appearances in films like Sorry To Bother You and Always Be My Maybe, and a successful YouTube cooking series, he hints at a shift away from music toward other media. However, “That 1 Tyme In The Studio” serves as a retrospective of his prolific career before he takes a hiatus from releasing albums after his 16th album in the fall of 2024.
