Altin Gün, JEREMIAS and Matt Corby at Reeperbahn Festival 2023
|
Every year, the concerts in the Elbphilharmonie form the prelude to the announcement of the Reeperbahn Festival concert programme. The setting of the concert venue on the Elbe, with the Grand Hall and its stage open on all sides as well as the exceptional acoustics, provides a more than fitting backdrop for unforgettable live performances. In recent years, acts such as Mine, Anna Calvi, RY X and Lewis Capaldi have graced the festival stage here. And this year, once again, the Elbphilharmonie’s Grand Hall will play host to two concerts on each evening of Friday 22 September and Saturday 23 September. The appearing acts are Altin Gün (NL), JEREMIAS (GER), Matt Corby (AU) and FIL BO RIVA (GER/IT).
The six-strong Amsterdam band Altin Gün (NL) bring the melodies of old Turkish folk songs into the here and now using 70s psychedelic retro rock sounds, 80s pop beats and synth layers, with such skill that the atmosphere at their concerts quickly becomes unstoppable. There’s a reason why the band’s name translates as “Golden Day”, and it’s in full evidence here!
JEREMIAS (GER) have been shaking up the German pop landscape since 2019. Their first EPs “Du musst an den Frühling glauben” and “alma” were followed by their acclaimed debut album “golden hour” in 2021, in which they perfectly capture the zeitgeist of their generation. Their rousing shows have meanwhile gained JEREMIAS a reputation as renowned live performers, and the venues they play are getting bigger and bigger – high time, then, for their next appearance at Reeperbahn Festival.
On his latest album, “Everything’s Fine”, songwriter Matt Corby (AU) turns the adversities that life has thrown at him in recent years into strengths. He comes through as a remarkably mature songwriter, whose indie folk has traded driven urgency for serenity and gained considerable depth in the process.
After releasing his first single “Like Eye Did” in 2016, followed by his highly acclaimed debut album “Beautiful Sadness” in 2019, FIL BO RIVA (GER/IT) from Berlin quickly became a household name and a popular Reeperbahn Festival act. The resonant timbre of his special voice is tailor-made for the introspective themes of his songs, which fuse folk and soul into a melancholic whole. Their sound will take on a special dimension in the Grand Hall of the Elbphilharmonie at this year’s Reeperbahn Festival – and FIL BO RIVA will be performing not yet unreleased songs in this unique show.
