Dutch-Ghanaian singer introduces revamped West-African roots with new EP

Meet MS.ABA, Dutch-Ghanaian singer and performer who introduces the world to Afro-centric soul music accompanied by a message that takes you back to her Ghanaian roots. Her long-anticipated debut EP “Rooted”, is MS.ABA’s oath to her West African heritage.

MS.ABA introduces Afro-centric soul, a fusion of West-African rhythms on a foundation of gospel sung in English, Pidgin English and Twi. Influenced by her Ghanaian heritage, the singer draws inspirations from fellow African musicians like Kojo Antwi, Koo Nimo, Sony Okunso and other big legends. This is highly recognisable in her sound.

On November 12th, 2020, audiences from The Netherlands, Ghana, and United Kingdom were treated to “Rooted”: The Virtual Concert. A captivating and rhythmic experience which was streaming live straight out of the PAARD Music Venue in The Hague.

Rooted the EP (October 2021) is a compilation of songs that explore the different genres the songstress grew up listening to. As an artiste it is MS.ABA’s goal to represent Africa wherever she goes. Fully displaying West-Afrocentric styles, MS.ABA proudly showcases her Ghanaian culture in her music videos.

‘Thanks and Praise’, which is the EP’s debut single, is an oath to young women of colour who struggle or have struggled with self-esteem issues. The sophomore single ‘Tomorrow’, takes its listeners through a throwback of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Showcasing the rich cultural decades the songstress’s parents went through after they migrated to the Netherlands in the late 70’s. The third single, better known as ‘Everything’, is a West-African inspired song with a soothing and rhythmic production by Nigerian based producer Tbabz. The track invites listeners to relax and enjoy the melodies that the Motherland has to offer.

As of June 2021, MS.ABA will kick off her virtual tour, called “Rooted: From Lowlands to the Gold Coast”.  In collaboration with some of Ghana’s noted artist, she will present a set of live and virtual performances from prominent locations in The Netherlands and Ghana.

As a true child of the soil, MS.ABA has made it her international mission to showcase the influence of African art to the world by collaborating with African creatives.
