John Wetton dies at 67
|A couple of minutes go the sad news reached us, bassist John Wetton deceased. Friends of John Wetton confirmed the sad news to Maxazine. Wetton played bass in bands like Mogul Thrash, Family, King Crimson, Roxy Music / Bryan Ferry band Uriah Heep, UK, Wishbone Ash and super Band Asia. John Wetton was known for his phenomenal bass playing,. In 1980 he went more commercial. Last years he played hardly any bass, Wetton focused more on the role as vocalist and lyricist.
Early this year Wetton declared to give up his role as bass player for the upcoming tour of Asia in March and April, to start a new chemotherapy. Yes member Billy Sherwood takes Wetton’s spot on during the tour, with Asia the support act for Journey.
Guitarist Bill Liesegang (Nina Hagen) recorded with Wetton: “John told me the worst thing would be to go to your death bed without having achieved any of your goals! I’m sure he achieved his! RIP John.”
