ENHYPEN Brings the ‘Pop’ to K-pop During EU Tour in Amsterdam
|On August 28, Korean boyband ENHYPEN (EN-) took the stage in Amsterdam for the first time as part of their ‘Walk the Line Tour’, their first European tour ever. More than 15,000 Engines, as their fanbase is called, sent the decibel meter into overdrive that evening. The group delivered an impressive 2.5-hour show, and fans are already eagerly awaiting their return.

ENHYPEN debuted in 2020 under the Belift Lab label with 7 members: Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon and Ni-Ki. The group’s name symbolises the etymology of the ‘-‘ symbol: to ‘come together to connect, grow together and become a new act’. They quickly grew into one of the most influential bands of their generation, with multiple Billboard chart entries. In 2022 and 2023, the band toured Asia and America. After their successful performance at Coachella, the band announced their first European tour, 5 years after their debut.
And what a debut on Dutch soil! Well before opening time, fans were already standing at the doors of the Ziggo Dome. Posters were handed out for the fan project, random dances were performed, and stickers and bracelets were distributed. A beautiful display of connection between the fans. By then, even most of the merchandise had sold out.
To help pass the waiting time, the band’s music played along with short clips from music videos. It proved to be one of the best ways to get the audience warmed up, as the decibel warning on Apple Watches went off after some screaming from the crowd. Earplugs were almost more necessary to protect your ears from the audience than from the band’s sound.
Promptly at 7:30 PM, the lights went out and the stage lit up. The band opened with “Brought the Heat Back” and “FEVER”. The energy was palpable from both sides. The group immediately showed their best side. The tight choreography and vocals that you’d expect from Asian perfectionism created a strong stage presence. The audience also made itself heard immediately. EN- couldn’t ignore it anymore – they were in Amsterdam and the Dutch Engines were there to show they meant business! There wasn’t a quiet moment.
During outfit changes or when setting up or clearing the stage for the next act, short video clips were played on the side screens. This way, the intermissions didn’t feel too long, and the ‘era’ of songs was either teased a bit or not at all to mislead the audience. The band truly put on a show. Constant outfit changes, stage changes, a new ‘vibe’ for each song, and in between, still room to connect with the audience and clear enjoyment of being on stage.
After the performance of “Loose”, they proved that the microphones were actually on, perhaps also for fan service, by singing a small part of the chorus a cappella. This was followed by a segment where EN- shared their story about their first experience in Amsterdam. What they had done and they taught the audience how to say ‘Dank je wel’ (thank you), ‘wafel’ (waffle), ‘lekker’ (delicious), ‘alles goed’ (all good) and ‘hoe gaat het’ (how are you). They were good at involving the audience, including the people sitting in the stands. Eventually, a large portion of those people were standing too.
After “Moonstruck”, all the fan project posters went up. “Amsterdam is Moonstruck by you” was read aloud. The band all stood neatly in a row and each told their story about their experience so far. One by one, they promised they would return. Finally, it was announced that the group is busy with preparations for their new album. And the Dutch fans inspire them enormously, so they can’t wait to go back and work on this.
EN- delivered a strong, energetic, enthusiastic and talented performance that evening. An introduction that completely blew you away. They showed why they deserve those Billboard positions and how they managed to grow into a worldwide phenomenon. For many fans, this was their first experience that they will never forget!
